London Victoria
One of the busiest rail stations in the country, Victoria can be pretty stressful to travel
through, especially at rush hour. So we've put together a few tips to help make it a bit more bearable...
Cruise past the queues
Got to the station with just minutes to spare before your train leaves, only to face massive
queues at the ticket office and out-of-service ticket machines? Don't despair! Head for the
station reception office, found to the left of the main ticket office (if you are facing it).
This office sells tickets too, but very few people realise this - so it can be a handy way to
bypass the queues!

Charm and character in Mayfair
If you prefer smaller hotels with an intimate feel and friendly, personal service, then the Park Lane Mews
is for you. This period townhouse in exclusive Mayfair is centrally located just a short walk away from Hyde
Park, Piccadilly, Bond Street and Oxford Street - making it the ideal base from which to explore London. There's
a small restaurant serving delicious food, and snacks and afternoon tea are available in the Lounge Bar.

Forties favourite
Fancy a special night out in London that's a bit different from the usual nightclub or West
End show? If so, get yourself down to the Pigalle Club. Inspired by 1940s-style supper clubs,
this glamorous venue features both up-and-coming artists and established musicians like Marianne
Faithfull. Soak up the laid-back sounds of the house band as you sip your expertly mixed cocktail
or enjoy a delicious meal in the mezzanine restaurant overlooking the stage. Who says they don't
make 'em like they used to?

The secret garden
London's most secret garden is the Chelsea Physic Garden, only open to the public on Sundays
and Wednesdays from April to October. Founded in 1673 as the Apothecaries' Garden, it has been
growing plants with medicinal uses ever since. It also boasts the oldest rock garden in England
on public view, dating from 1773! An oasis of tranquillity and beauty just a few minutes' walk from
the busy King's Road, the garden is the perfect place to relax and take time out to enjoy a crisp
autumn day. Pay a visit before it closes for the winter on October 29th.

The perfect place for a blind date?
Yet another new restaurant has recently opened in London. But stifle that yawn - at Dans le Noir in
London's Clerkenwell, you eat your dinner in the dark. That's right: the restaurant is pitch black.
Food is ordered in a lit area before you are led into the dining room, where you're served by blind
waiters who act as guides. When you're deprived of your sight, even locating the food on your plate
becomes a challenge, let alone identifying it! But the idea is that your other senses are enhanced,
creating a unique dining experience. If you're feeling adventurous, why not give it a try?
